Healthful Living Outdoor Safety Guidelines


1.    Equipment is not allowed onto the track when there are walkers/joggers.
2.    Jog the track in lanes 1 or 2, walk in any of the other lanes.
3.    Enter the track through the open gate or wait until it is unlocked.
4.    Do not hang from the soccer goals and / or basketball goals
5.    Wooded areas are not participation areas.
6.    Tackling is not permitted during any games/activities.
7.    “Piggy backing” riding (jumping onto someone's back is inappropriate.
8.    Stay where your teacher can see you – avoid these areas without permission - the restroom, the school building and the mobile units.
9.    It is unsafe to throw and/or kick rocks or other non-equipment material (some examples = water bottles, sticks, trash, etc.).
10.  When the whistle sounds - stop play.
11.  Avoid throwing a football or any other equipment items, as you are 
       walking towards the barrel / trailer – this is after the whistle has
       sounded to go inside.
12.  Aggressive behavior is in violation of Wake County policy - this includes taunting, bullying, harrassment  and or use of profanity.
13.  Spectating is only allowed for students who have physical injuries
       with parental/doctor notes.
14.  Refrain from sitting, walking, standing or jumping on/off the bleachers and benches.
15.  The basketball courts are for games - not for stepping / cheering / dancing – these
       activities are not allowed on fitness days.
16.  Stunts, tumbling, gymnastics, etc. – these activities require mats, spotters and a teachers direct supervision; therefore they are not activities for fitness days.
17.  Wearing flip-flops, hiking boots, sandals and other such shoes are not safe for physical activities.
18.  Refrain from chewing gum, eating candy, use of electronics – just a reminder
       even though these are Durant School wide rules!
   
Consequences for failure to comply:  the actual consequence depends on the severity as well as the number of times a student has been non-compliant.
